I just got this little guy yesterday! Sorry that the pictures aren’t too good, I had his tank light off to help him adjust

I set my new 5.5gal up a couple weeks back and since I used some Fritz Zyme and a used filter my cycle was done pretty quick, but as you can see my plants are on the tail end of their ugly melty phase lol and I’ve been waiting around for new growth

He’s my first long-finned betta (I have a female that I post about) and the first betta I’ve had that’s ever flared. He also acts like he hates my guts lol

Any advice for getting him used to me? He won’t take food from me. I know it’s just day one but he’s SO dramatic about it it’s making me feel like I might have to be proactive. I might wait a day before interacting with him again because I think he might’ve taken a tiny bite or two (couldn’t tell) and I don’t want to stress him out, but any advice for after that is welcome

Hi, Either Cast a spell on him or try different food. ALSO 5.5 gal is not enough they need 10 or more

5.5 is just fine don’t worry, and usually they’re still adjusting on the first day so just wait he’ll get hungry soon!

  3. Gonna cry, he looks so much like my one boy Cupid who passed. He’s beautiful, and the tank looks like you’re doing a great start <3 just give him time, treats, and attention imo

Stressguard is my saving grace for situations like this. It appears you have tannins already so that’s great. I usually keep lights off and fast for 24-48hours. He actually looks curious. I would just let him rest and acclimate. If he keeps being stressed, I would put a matte black out on the outside of the tank. Some bettas are very uptight when introducing to a new tank. Others adapt quickly. But it sounds like you’re doing great
