I am going to be in Fort Myers in February and I want to do some blacktip fishing. I've caught one before, but that was after a lot of trial and error. One of the big problems we had was getting the bait out far enough. I'll be fishing from shore, and I have a rod and reel combo already. I also have my shark fishing permit, and license. The questions I have were:

what beach would you fish from in the fort myers area?
How do you get your bait out far enough?
And any other tips and suggestions

Join the LBSF groups on Facebook. There’s an endless debate between kayaking baits out vs. droning baits out. But either way, you physically cannot cast a 2lb rig 150-400 yards out. You’ll need a way to paddle/fly them out into deeper water. In the summer, I’ve had some hookups in the first rib 60 yards out or so. Wade as far as you can, cast as far as you can. But to really get out to the big boys you’ll need some type of vehicle to get it out there. I’ve heard the RC boats are more trouble than they’re worth.

we used to just use a big float and find a spot the tide would take it out.. never seemed that complicated, but I guess it isn’t fashionable anymore, lol
