After weeks of cycling and getting the tank ready we finally got our fishes home. Meet dragon 4th of July. My daughter chose and named him becoz he’s red white and blue 🤣
So far he’s been super shy, almost scared of the cardinal tetras we have. I’m also kinda suspecting we got a female instead of a male I was told he was.

Are you able to show a closer/better pictures of their belly? To differentiate between male and female, look for their “ovipostor” – a small white dot in between their head/ventricular fin and their anal fin.
You can also tell when your fish “flares” – this is when they flare their gills out and show their opercular membrane (or their “beard”), below their chin. The beard membrane (called the “Gill membrane” in the picture) is much more pronounced on males, and small on females. Females also tend to flare less as they are less aggressive than males.
