This betta is a little odd and has been sleeping on this leaf that’s just barely under the water , he keeps scaring me bc I think he’s dead. is this normal betta behavior 🤣😩

I’ve been trying to train my betta to use his leafs but yeah this is perfectly normal! Bettas have an organ called the Labyrinth Organ this organ requires they go to the surface to sip air for O2. Due to their long and flowy fins they find them cumbersome to move around in water since they hold a lot of weight. It’s so they find leaves to rest and breathe at the surface without moving those heavy fins. What you’re seeing is A very healthy and HAPPY betta they’re comfortable in their environment so congrats 🎊 to you.

Yep! Very normal! I have mine “hanging” around the filter intake 😂
Super normal 🙂 bettas like to hang out near the surface due to their Labyrinth organ, which is how they breathe. They trap air in it and slowly process it through their gills, rather than extracting oxygen from the water directly. They just like to chill near the surface 😎
Also, it’d be beneficial to have a lid as they tend to be jumpers due to their curious and exploratory nature. Leave about 2-4 inches of room between the surface of the water and the lid for proper oxygenation.

They’re infamous for scaring the bejesus out if new betta owners with these shenanigans but it’s ok! They are just napping.
