So I had 3 bumblebee gobies. Was planning to get more but one (assumed male) died after about 5 months. He had no signs of deterioration. Fins were perfectly intact and he was a bright yellow colour. He would mainly guard a back corner and wouldn’t eat as much as the others.

I tested my water parameters after the loss and everything is was spot on. I now have two gobies left, which I believe are both females. One of them is significantly larger than the other. At first I thought this was bloat, so I reduced feeding, but her size hasn’t decreased and I can see what looks like small dots in her abdomen so I’m wondering whether she could be gravid rather than bloated.

Before she does lay eggs, would introducing a male allow fertilisation, or would a male need to be present beforehand? I’m also trying to understand what could’ve been the cause of the male dying before I add any more fish. They’re in a well planted tank with semi-brackish water.

Im new to keeping these fish so any insight would be appreciated. I’ve attached two photos of the remaining gobies if anyone knows what gender they might be that would be great.
