just recently got this male betta because Petsmart had said they’ve had him for a few months. i’ve never owned my own betta but have done tons of research because i’ve always wanted one. Whenever I noticed recently that especially when he eats he does this weird head twitch but also does it when he isn’t eating..what does it mean and how can I help him? (P.S i bought him better food it just hasn’t come in the mail yet)

What are those plants in your tank? Not sure about the head nod outside of eating, however it does appear to just be chomping down on some food. I’d suggest feeding a little less, their stomachs are surprisingly small.
Maybe I’m seeing this wrong but isn’t he just chewing? Or am I missing something… I’m no expert so take what I say not too serious
If he does it occasionally when you didn’t feed him he may be monching on something random from the tank (snails, grabbed a chunk of plant lol, little micro things we can’t see) or just gulpin some air, should be totally fine. If he does it super often I’d be a bit concerned but it’s likely fine esp if he otherwise behaves normally

my betta got a slightly larger pellet this morning and did a similar chew and swallow it was cute lol
