This is my first bait caster set up I got about a year ago. Zillion sv tw spooled with Sufix 30lb and St Croix The Grunt 7’1 MH fast. I’ve learned to get pretty good with it, but my issue is it just isn’t that fun. It feels like I need to make big sweeping casts and when I try to get the rod to load, I end up snapping my lures off. Am I doing something wrong?
What should it feel like to cast far with this combo and how can I make using it more enjoyable? I’m not opposed to buying a lighter action rod. I just want to give this one a fair shot before I shelf it.
Thanks for any input!

What weight lures are you casting with it? It shouldn’t take to much effort to load up a rod if you’re using the proper lure weights with the rod weight tolerances.
What knot are you tying? 30lb anything shouldn’t break just from casting, especially not a soft body frog. Also, it might be worth giving the specs on your rod.
You should be able to cast that frog a mile. Maybe it’s the reel? Mess with the settings
Shouldn’t have to cast hard. What you need to do is set brakes to max or a click or two from max. Then pick a reasonable target to cast at. When casting at the target make sure your rod tip is pointed at the target at the end of the end of the cast then turn down the tension knob until your bait lands where your rod tip is pointed at the target. If that doesn’t get it then adjust brake again and repeat. Try a more underhand side cast. Also when going further cast in a fluid motion the spool of the reel should go vertical, handle pointed to the sky it is a left hand reel.its all practice you have a nice set up so that Shouldn’t be the issue. Hope this helps a little bit.
