I’m debating between .8 and 1pe YGK shinji X9 braid for my Daiwa exist 3000xh paired with a 9ft medium light rod rated for 1/4oz-1.25oz and i usually throw under 3/4oz lures.

What’s the advantages/disadvantages? I don’t fish rocky areas much and this is a lighter setup for saltwater for fish that get around 5-10lb average with 10+lb being rare. I have a 4000 reel with 1.5pe already so that’s why I’m thinking lighter for this setup. Thanks

  1. There’s not a huge difference in diameter between PE #0.8 and #1.0. The advantage of thinner diameter braid is that you get longer casting distances and can fit more braid on your reel spool. Because the diameter between 0.8 and 1 PE is so close you won’t see bigger differences in casting distance between the two with the lure weights you are using.

I use YGK PE #0.8 on my Stradic 2500S (shallow spool) and I get about 150m on the spool.

I think in your case either 0.8 or 1 PE would work fine.
