Hi all,

I ordered a betta from a breeder who does 2-3 day shipping. I finally got the tracking info on the 7th of January, and the fish will not arrive until Monday 1/12.

I’m nervous about safely acclimating the fish to his new tank. I know that as soon as I open his shipping bag, ammonia will spike.

This is my first time acclimating a fish who was mailed, and I’m hoping for some pointers! Thanks!

    More info about setup:
Tank size: 10gal. Fully cycled with live plants-no tank mates
    Heater/filter: yes
    Tank temp: 79 degrees F
    Parameters:
    ammonia: 0
    Nitrite: 0
    Nitrate: <.5
    PH: 8.0

  2. Turn off your tank lights and float the unopened the bag. I usually do this for 20 ish minutes or so. Then I just add the fish to the aquarium, WITHOUT the water in the bag. I keep the tank lights off for the first day or two to let them acclimate.

A lot of people also do drip acclimation, I don’t and I’ve never had issues. But it can only help!

I once had a fish in transit for 6 days. I was really nervous. He arrived healthy with no issues and acclimated just fine.

Good luck with your new buddy!

ETA: Wash the bag off before floating in your aquarium.
