Recently got out of a relationship with a guy and he left me one of his poles. I don’t know what’s wrong with it or if I’m supposed to have this issue but there’s this extra string hanging out of the bottom of the reel? Am I supposed to just unwind this ? Can I just cut it and call it a day ? Or is there a way I can take this off and unwind it that way? I’m sorry for all the questions. I used to fish with my grandpa before he passed and I have nobody else to ask but a subreddit lol. Thank you so much in advance

Unscrew the drag knob on top of the spool so you can remove the spool. Hopefully you can unwind and free the braided line off the spool shaft then reinstall the spool.
Looks like that’s going to cause some issues if you leave it like that… Cutting it might work for a bit but I’m guessing there’s no knot attaching it to the reel.
I’d remove all the line and just replace it with new line before use. If you don’t want to buy line or are confident the line on there is still good, you can try to spool it off the reel onto a water bottle or something and then tie a good knot and reel it back on.
There is a knob on top of the reel to tighten or loosen the drag. Turn that to left all the way until it pops off and lift spool off the reel shaft and remove the line.
