This is my betta fish named baby, he’s a half moon double tail and he’s beautiful! This is his tank right now and I was wondering if maybe there’s way to much space and I need more hiding spots? I already took out the pineapple in fear of or cutting his long fins and the fake anemonie is silicone. He’s very active, swims around a lot, he likes to hide behind his heater and lay down in his fake anemone

    Sorry guys I didn’t see the rules till now he’s in a 5 gallon tank, he does have a heater, I’ve had him for around 2 months and I saved him from petsmart, I do water changes every 2 weeks, he has no tank mates as of rn, I feed him brine shrimp and sometimes bloodworms 🙂

    My biggest suggestions would be lots more plant cover. Bettas LOVE plants, they provide more hiding/resting spots, and they’ll help with your water quality. There are plenty of beginner friendly live plants, and all you’d need for them would be root tabs

  3. Bettas love plants. I’d get some easy real plants in there. Hornwort, Java fern, Amazon sword, micro sword, moneywort

    6.5/10 IMHO

    That rubbery decoration will become nasty quick.

    I would add 10-15 plants – bettas want to live in shade , should be 60-80% coverage;

    My favorites :

    EASY : anubias (Tie or glue to suction cups for natural hammocks at surface ! java ferns, mosses, marimo, ambulias

    Also Crypts! Amazon sword *just a root tab now and again

    All of these need is 6 hours of light a day
    And weekly liquid fertiliser drop

  5. I can see that you have good intentions and do want to provide your fish with the best care you can. Honestly? It is alright, he can survive, but this is not a great GREAT tank for a betta, or any fish.

    I see you’ve given him some rocks and hides, which are really good. The little sign decoration you have at the front might be alright, but some are made with paint which can leech into the water and harm your fish. I’ve seen your comment about heating, filters and his diet. You’ve clearly done research on the topic, there are just bits missing.

    In an ideal world, getting a new tank altogether would be best, still five gallons but shallower and longer. I know that’s not always affordable. In a taller tank such as yours, plants can provide your betta with a place to rest and hide if feeling stressed. Even a single plant is better than none, it helps the tank’s bacteria and nitrogen cycle system, which are vital to your fish’s health. For a quicker replacement if this isn’t in your budget, even a small piece of store-bought driftwood would be beneficial. And it makes your tank look pretty!

    What substrate are you using? It looks to be gravel, but what time? Many coloured gravels, such as the black one photographed, have the same issue as the decorations mentioned previously. I’m not trying to be mean or horrible, you are obviously trying, it is very common for people to do when setting up their starter tank for any fish.

    No plants, driftwood or dappled light? Bettas also need more space, is this a 3g if so I prefer 5g better for bettas or even 10g, just add plants and watch for the artificial things like the pineapple those can carry toxins, is this tank cycled? If so then you are good on that part, just add plants, perhaps upgrade and more hiding spots, use plants that don’t require co2 that much, and are fast growing examples: Java fern, Java moss, anubias, floating plants, pearlweed, elodea, ect.
