Hi I have a Penn 4300ss I inherited from my grandpa which has been in my basement for about 20 years or so. I plan to use it this upcoming season and was going to grease it and maintain it while it was cold still.
I opened it up and found it looked to be still greased well (to the untrained eye) and would like opinions.
There seems to be spots where oil/grease coagulatied and made little lumps of oil should those be mushed and spread around? Or is it alright as is or should it be a total clean and re application of grease?

Doesn’t look bad at all. If it was still operating smoothly when you got your hands on it I’d close it up and use it. Reel maintenance is something that should be done as needed – which will be influenced by how often the reel is used, how hard it is used/abused, and what conditions it’s used it e.g. saltwater – not necessarily on a set schedule, if that makes sense.
