Hi all!

I just returned from a Golden Dorado trip in Argentina and wanted to share some insights.
The trip was split into two locations, starting with the Iberá Wetlands at Capita Mini Lodge. Given the current water levels, we mostly fished the Rio Corrientes. The scenery there is simply breathtaking—between the epic birdlife, caimans, and capybaras, the landscape is worth the trip alone. It’s a numbers game there, and landing 10+ fish a day is easily possible, mostly using sinking lines on the swing. One of the best moments was a specific spot where Dorados rise just like trout during dusk. You can target them with topwater flies, which is an incredible spectacle, even if it only lasts about 30 minutes. The lodge serves plenty of authentic Argentine home cooking. We stayed for three days, but honestly, two days would be enough.

For the second half, we headed to the Paraná River in Corrientes to fish with Pablo. He is a fantastic guide who previously worked for the top-tier lodges in the area, such as Pira Lodge, and still does occasionally. Pablo speaks great English and is an incredibly friendly guy. He even deep-fried fresh empanadas for us right on the boat. He offers both traditional blind casting and highly technical sight fishing in shallow water. Watching him pole the boat to find Dorados hunting Sabalo is an experience in itself. On good days, you can expect 15 to 20 shots. To me it’s much more engaging than just casting into the unknown, but certainly more challenging as you have to master quick and accurate casting. The fish tend to be bigger at the Parana. You can also target Pacu or Pirapita for some variety. Wildlife and scenery is stunning as well. If you go, stay near the river in Corrientes city; Pablo can pick you up by boat in the morning. Feel free to DM me if you want his contact info.

Tight lines!
