Hey everyone, newbie trout spin fisher located in the lower North Island, New Zealand (have fished salt water for years). I have been out maybe 3 times and today was my first time witnessing a trout! (Over the moon) but he seemed hesitant. I was walking up my local river and found a large piece of concrete debris which looked perfect to a trout to hide behind so I was casting up stream and after about 10 minutes I saw a trout follow and nibble at it then swim off, 5 minutes after that I got another one (or could’ve been the same one) follow my lure but didn’t take. We had a bit of rain fall the day before so the river was a little higher and faster current then usual, weather was overcast with occasional VERY light sun showers (lasting 1-3 minutes). Below is a photo of the lure I was using, I tried multiple lures from tassie devil (black and gold) soft baits (black and gold & clear/white) but the only one that got action was the black and bronze 10g Toby.

Am I on the right track here or could I have been doing something a little different, I was changing my retrieve speeds and depths, I think I was about mid water winding MARGINALLY faster then the current when I got the action.
