hello, I have a betta fish, he is currently in a tall 29L tank. he currently has terrible fin rot, due to bad water quality and no changes over a few months. his fins are no longer long. I am treating him and have been doing water changes. I have bought a learner tank for goldfish from petbarn, just for the tank. not anything else at all!!! the tank is 21 litres, I was just intrigued by the lower height. the quality of the tank isn't good, I might take it back and it looks like it's plastic. overall, I want to know what I should do tank wise. I am also going to buy Fluval stratum and sand to cap it, and get some plants to put in while I start the cycle of a new tank. should I be keeping the same tank?? should I be chaning it to a shorter one?? should I make the substrate higher so that it's not so fatiguing for him? his filter is way to high current, which are low flow?? the filter the learner tank came with I will buy separately if I take that tank back. it has an adjustable flow. with ornaments in it, they can't be sharp or rough, so what do I do??? most are sharp and rough, or smooth and paint covered. what is the difference between the bio stratum and the normal fluval stratum?

To sum up:

tank size, height, and filter strength?

fluval stratum?

depth of the substrate?

Oh and by the way, my lack of water changes was not due to laziness, I was in the middle of epilepsy diagnoses, which did not start until 3 months after I got him. I tried really hard for him, but it was safer for the both of us so I didn’t really mess up, due to my brain being in scrambles after seizures. But still, that does not excuse his conditions, he deserves better. Also by the way, I am so sorry for my grammar in that message, I have used it all up for school today, grade 12 will be the death of me.
