Caught this from a stocked lake in CA today. Much darker and larger spots than any other ones we caught. What species is this?

I think probably just a rainbow with different genes. I don’t see a lot of features associated with other trouts

Pssst, especially with trout, you should get in the habit of killingand bleeding them as soon as you choose to keep them. Keeping fish strung like this allows stress enzymes to spoil the meat.

That looks a bit sadistic but yeah, can’t say sh1t because I like to hook fishes by the mouth as a hobby.
