I’m wondering what else would be good, I plan to get a cave to go in the centre, and maybe a live plant. Currently cycling my tank and have not gotten the fish yet, I’m aware that plastic plants are usually advised against so I made sure to get soft ones and tested if they would snag tights (they don’t) I’ve ordered a full test kit for the water to test for other chemicals and obviously won’t get the fish until I can test the chemical levels 🙂

A piece of driftwood would be good too!! like a mopani or spiderwood, definitely a natural driftwood. If you get a small one, then put it in a pot and boil it for a bit just to release some of the tannins (tea color). You can keep a bit of the water to add when cool but that is optional) as long as you boil it the wood shouldn’t float, it might release some more tannins, but they are actually very beneficial for your betta!! I personally would also recommend overtime maybe starting to get some live plants to add in; they help to keep the tank clean! It’s a higher initial investment, but you do much less intensive maintenance overtime.
keep an eye on your water color too with that neon gravel someone posted pics with it and their water was tinted pink 😳
I would say a piece of driftwood and if you’re okay with the water tinting a little use the tannins from boiling it which will also keep your fish happy.
but lots of places to explore and hide and rest all over especially if you end up with a long fin!
I know live plants are the best but that’s also not realistic for everyone so good job trying to find the balance!
Neon gravel can be stressful for bettas, as well as toxic to them if the paint chips…
