Soo 4 days back, I went to the fish store to get some guppies for my bigger tank and i found this guy in a small jar, he was pretty weak and was laying down on the bottom, the shop owner gave me this fish for free when I took a lot of guppies, I dropped him with my guppies and and found out they both are not good partners after asking chatgpt, so I had to buy a medium sized bowl, stones and some wood for him.

He was weak asf, i got some triple care medicine and stuff from the shop and dropped some in, I did 4 water changes for the past 3 days (half water changes) and I didnt feed him a lot, only a tiny portion of high protein pallets 2 times a day…

I am planning to buy a bigger tank in the future (after a few months cause short ok money rn), what can I do to improve his fish tank thou?

AND, what type of beta is this ??

  1. First, thank you for saving him

You need a filter and heater! A small air stone with a sponge filter is enough. Did you cycled the tank and add water conditioner?

He would like plants. Duckweed or salvinia spp. are great floaters, but anything will do. Does he have a lot of space to swim? It looks very tiny, if you have a large plastic box that you have not used chemicals in I would rather use that meanwhile

  2. Heater, bigger tank (no bowl tank, it distorts their veiw of outside the tank and can be really disorienting for the fish) with no heater hes not going to be comfortable and may be why hes showing signs of sickness

Get a 5 gal mimimun, I keep mine in 10-20, and use a filter, heater, and live plants (easiest is a pothos, put the roots in the water and everything else above and that will eat nitrates)

Feed high quality feed, my go to is Fluval Bug Bites 3 times a week with frozen food once a week.

Give your betta plenty of hiding spots and try to make his/her tank as natural as possible

  3. The bowl actually works really well as a hospital tank. My suggestion would be to get a heater asap and some Seachem prime. Dose with a little prime to help with ammonia and I wouldn’t medicate with anything as medicating a fish that doesn’t have a diagnosis can do more harm than good. A clean warm environment should do wonders. If you don’t see improvement or he starts to decline then I would consider medication. The only other thing he might enjoy is a resting spot near the top of the tank, a suction leaf would work well for this bowl
