So it’s for my kid she’s gonna be 8 and I’m not gonna buy her the Disney one she’s too cool and old for that lol I saw some interesting ones on temu? She’s basically just gonna be siting next to her dad driving him nuts but wants to try it. I like this one that telescopes so she can carry her own shit (lazy ass kids) I’ll send or post a picture maybe my first post so don’t go to hard on me.

I would go with the spinning reel over the bait caster if I were in this situation.
Assuming, of course, she is brand new to fishing. Giving her a bait caster, dad won’t be doing any fishing……only untangling birds nests.
Thank you
It’s 15 bucks. Give it a shot. That parent attitude. I am cracking up. Carry your own shit and bug your dad
I wouldn’t buy anything off of Temu personally. You can get a decent, cheap, “girly looking” setup just about anywhere in person and you won’t have to wonder if it’s actually just a 12 inch long toy. I have two hot pink Shakespeare rods and Zebco reels that my buddy’s little girl uses. They were $15 each at Walmart. At least take a look at Walmart first. You don’t have to get her the Barbie pole but there will be pink ones without characters.
I’ve had good luck with those telescopic rods. It will probably break (she’s going to snap the tip off once or twice) so I’d buy 2 or 3. I would recommend starting her off with a spinning reel, or a spincast reel (like a zebco 33). The spincast will be easier for her to use, but she won’t get “cool credits” with the other fisherman.
For line, definitely go with monofilament. Braid is not necessary and will just make things harder (it’s hard to cut, it spooks fish, you’d want to tie a monofilament leader on the end anyways). Just get a cheap 5-10lb mono (or use whatever comes on the reel, the zebco reels are all pre-approved up with mono).
For a lure/rig, I’d start with a fixed bobber and worms. Or a dropshot rig.
I don’t recommend a collapsible rod- they are known for being very problematic. Buy a 4 piece ugly stik instead.
You would get something significantly better quality for probably $10 more at walmart or academy.
