  1. Ctenopoma. My friend has one of these in his 55 gallon. Ambush predators. She will go nuts during feeding time. Gets along perfectly fine with the tetras, corydoras, and even the shrimp in that tank.

  2. I used to have a tank full of these guys and nothing else. Varying sizes, but they all had one thing in common: They’d all previously been in community tanks and eaten their tankmates, and been taken to my local shop for rehoming.

Eventually, my LFS would call me when one came in, and I’d take it off their hands. I was like Ctenopoma Rescue or something. The only entry requirement was a history of murder.

Fantastic fish, I really miss that tank.

A Ctenopoma acutirostre. It goes by a number of common names such as the Leopard Bushfish or African Leaf fish. They’re an ambush predator from central Africa that thrives in densely planted aquariums with lots of structure.

They will reach 5-6 inches long with smaller sizes being more common in aquariums. Being a predatory species they will eat any tankmates that can fit within their mouth, but will ignore and do well with fish it can’t eat. Easy to feed frozen and dry foods.

A fun species to own due to their personality and unique spotted appearance. They will actively creep around structure within the aquarium as they swim. Only potential downside other than their predatory nature, is they are a slow growing species, taking years to reach their adult size.

I love mine but he’s disappointing me, I have several small fish that I would like him to eat and he staunchly refuses.

My blood parrot bred with a polar blue and now I have mongrel hybrid of hybrid babies that no LFS would take.
