Aquariums: Is this a good amount 2x a day for 6 glo tetras?
My last fish died of swim bladder disease. I’m trying to adjust the auto feeder and this is the amount from one rotation is this amount 2x a day enough to feed 6 glo tetras? Pencil for scale. Thanks in advance!

I don’t think you should feed them pencil lead but that’s just me

Do you see any uneaten food anywhere when feeding that amount? It’s really the only way to tell.

It looks like too much to me. Do they eat it all within about 30-40 seconds? Most people overfeed their fish. If they eat it all then it is okay, but I think you could feed 1/4 of that amount only once per day and they certainly will not starve.

Twice a day!?
Try every other day or less

That’s too much food even for once a day. You don’t need to be feeding your fish that much

Make it once a day and it is still plenty.

I feed my fish once every two days and they are all over a year old and happy as clams. Fish don’t need to eat every day. Especially in a planted tank.

good rule of thumb, feed them once a day. and only feed them a amount you can see them eat it all within 30 seconds. (my glow tetras dont just eat one, idk what that other person comment is talking about)

I feed my fish every other day if they’re lucky. Daily feeding isn’t necessary. I can’t say if that’s enough or too much though. See if they finish it up in a minute or before it gets to the bottom if you don’t have any Cory cats.

I used to feed a couple times per day then switched to once per day and now once every other day and sometimes I’ll skip two days in a row. I’ve realized that they need a lot less food than I originally thought and my fish seem more healthy and energetic plus my tanks stay a lot cleaner now.

As others have said, that amount once a day is probably fine, or even a little less

Depends if there is any food left on the ground after 2-3 min. I would feed that amount only once a day tho

Depends if these are fry that are growing, or adult fish fully grown. Breeding, not breeding, etc.
Each has different nutritional needs.
I feed my fish several times a day, but I’m raising tons of fry and conditioning breeding groups, or growing future breeders.
But even then, I still feed a mix of food. Live foods, flake, pellets and frozen.

Unless you have baby fish I’d never recommend feeding twice a day. I feed growing fish and or smaller fish (tetras ect) once a day and as long as there’s no food left in the tank then it’s fine. Big fish once grown I feed once every other day because it’s all they really need and it saves on food costs as well as keeping waste levels in the tank down. I also skip a day of feeding with all my fish to keep them hungry. The only fish I will feed multiple times a day and every day are fry that are growing out

It would be better to use a banana for scale

If they are the only thing in the tank that might be a tad much. If you have a snail or some shrimp, you should be good to go.

You shouldn’t feed every day.

TIL – some fish are avid writers and must be provided with fresh #2 pencils daily in order to satisfy their creative needs. Who knew? 😉
