HELP! Just woke up today and my beta fish has blood all over his fins. I don’t know if this is from a tear or if he is fin nipping or what it could be? All water parameters are fine. He won’t even swim up to the top of the tank for me to feed him anymore.

  1. Bettas dont have blood on their fins, this is likely fin rot caused by bacteria!

You should watch the parameters (especially ammonia, nitrites and nitrates) and possibly do more water changes/make sure your tank is fully cycled. Watch out for any decoration that is sharp and can rip the fins

This is my betta normally. I referenced this in another post, but after I left for a 3 day vacation, I came back and saw a bunch of her fins were teared up, I have no clue on what, but I took out some of the decoration that could’ve been the culprit.

I’ve been keeping the tank super clean, doing water changes, and also added an IAL. Today, I woke up to the red stuff on him

  3. looks like a severe case of fin rot, treat it accordingly. i like using tannins and medication (i use seachem paraguard). if it doesn’t clear up you can do salt baths, although i personally don’t like them and wouldn’t myself unless you’re knowledgeable on them. asides from that, just look into it more.

i’d also try rehoming the cory’s. they do best in bigger groups and while i don’t think they’re gonna hurt anything, they need more space

  4. How long have you had this fish? This doesn’t seem like blood, it looks like his color has changed. He might’ve been stressed that you were gone. I’ve had white bettas that actually turned this kinda color when they Glo-up

Are you sure he is not just marbling? I have an opal betta that developed red spots as he matured.

Idk if it’s relevant but I did add the driftwood fairly recently and that’s around the time he started ripping his fins. I think the wood is pretty soft but maybe there’s some sharp edges on it I’m missing??
