Im new to fish and betta keeping. I noticed my girl loves squeezing through all cracks and holes so my froggos lent her their tunnel. She swims through and every once in a while does this little dance near the entrance.

Can someone translate? Does she like it?

  1. If youre near the tank, she could be doing happy wiggles because shes happy to see you, and/or wants food. All of my bettas do it when theyre excited or when they see me. Shouldn’t be a bad thing, just means shes happy!

this definitely looks like a happy lil wiggle to me or a trying to get your attention dance haha but they definitely love squeezing into weird places even if they shouldn’t or could get stuck 🫠

  3. Trying to escape that area. Those tunnels can panic a betta with big fins if they can’t turn around properly. Or, any betta in general.

  4. X the betta appears to be engaging in predatory behavior. It is seeking a cubbyhole to lie in wait within it. The betta sees the hole goes in then feels uncomfortable turning, panics a little and then it is just rinse and repeat. Try providing a cubbyhole near the surface. Also one that provides a little shade overhead. The betta goes into a hole but it is a very bright one and it’s instinct tells it that it stands out (more visible) , so it panics a bit again and it’s rinse snd repeat. Change the conditions to test what is the source of the behavior. Process of elimination… the hole is too bright, the betta needs it nearer the surface… if changing those conditions doesn’t change the bettas behavior then I’m sure that I’ll hear all about it from people lol.

P.S. this has been a ‘no happy wiggles’ advice post

  5. If you think about it from the betta’s perspective, they can see through the glass and their peripheral stays the same as basically how your room looks so you can imagine that if something was moving came in, looked at you and your surroundings were totally different.
You would most likely act differently and try to get a closer look at what was going on and also potentially try to interact with what was going on considering your circumstances are very interesting

  6. I think she’s trying to figure why theres a wall there but not higher up 😂 they dont have the biggest brains lol
