I’ve had this betta in here for about a week, after taking him in from a friend who was moving away. The tank is fully cycled and already had 5 shrimp that he seems to be getting along with well. Any suggestions on what I can add to make sure he is happy?

You can definitely add more plants and floaters.
Looks good. Maybe one of those floating betta logs , mine loves to nap in his.
Floaters and floating log or bed for sure, looks great and it will be even better once those plants grow!
Way more plants. Figure out a way to hide the heater.
heavier planting and a black background! he will feel safer with darker background
Stick the java fern onto your driftwood
Time! The plants will look great in a few months. I would add some red rooters or frogbit, with a beta hammock
