oscars are known to be one of the most socially adept cichlids that have been studied. different studies suggest they have different ways of communicating with other cichlids around them, one way being different body movements. If i can find the research(es) ill reply here with them.

imo, could be aggression display but if they never have altercations, id assume its either a dominance thing, or a breeding thing. the fact that they are always with each other does support the courting theory.

    That’s just a Oscar thing 🤣
Could be a way of showing emotion! Mine would do some crazy shit when scared or happy or have something on their mind🤣 turn absolutely white when normal colors were just like yours! Go to the corner and “pout” shake his tail fin just as yours!
Or just keep jumping into the lid occasionally when he wanted food! It would be loud af to bcuz he was huge lol!!

  3. I had a Oscar with a jack Dempsey that did that. Probably courting? But maybe just a friendly hello for fish? Oscars are odd fish. Much like loaches when someone tells me they have a normal Oscar. I asked them what they think that is? Lol the only thing normal about them is they’re splendidly abnormal.

Until these wild Betta arguably the most interactive intelligent fish I’ve kept.
