OK CRAZY STORY!!
So I work a pet shop and it was about 5:15 just about to close and a customer rings up and says they found a fish in a old juice container with a free sign sitting on the side of the road. (this is New Zealand so free stuff on the road is super common) And they ask if they can bring it in and we can take care of it. Obviously we say yes and when they get here it turns out to be a beautiful placket betta. I had an empty cycled 25 L tank sitting with nothing in it so it was the perfect for him. he’s in surprisingly good condition and super happy in his new home.
please no one ever do this this is horrible I’m just so glad that people were able to find it as quickly as they did. the fish wasn’t sitting out on the footpath long but it was in direct sunlight so any longer it could’ve easily died from the heat.
BTW: his name is Dionysus who is the Greek god of wine making and grape harvest. keeping the theme of my other betta my red half moon Hephaestus-blacksmith of the gods

I’m not convinced 100% that’s a male. It could be a longer finned female. Breeding has been weird like that over the last decade.
Have you shone a light through from behind to check for ovaries?
I have a very similar looking female, although mine has a more obvious female shape around the pectoral fins (and I’m more familiar with sexing long finned bettas – plakats are more robust and throw me off a bit).
Cared enough to put care instructions on the bottle but not enough to re-home it properly.
Story is almost tough to believe. To think someone cares enough about fish to leave detailed care instructions but also leaves it to potentially die in a plastic bottle seems… unlikely. But sometimes reality is stranger than fiction. Glad the fish is good now!
