Excited to learn how to use a baitcaster for the first time. Any tips/advice are so welcomed. I'm on YouTube researching right now like I'm studying for a test lol

I do uni-to-uni for leaders. Technically the FG knot is the strongest and slimmest, but I’ve never had a uni-to-uni fail, mine are slim enough to cast no problem, and it’s 10x faster to tie.

Just start with the brakes and tension TIGHT on that baitcaster and slowly work your way up as you get more comfortable until you find your sweet spot. Practice in the yard-it’s never as much fun as it should be when you’re learning on the water and all you end up doing is picking out birds nests all day rather than fishing.

Yes that should work. I have tried the Alberto but don’t find it easy enough to tie in the chop on the back of a boat. I use the old double uni knot and never a problem.

It takes a little bit of getting used to but once you get the feel of a baitcaster you’ll love it. Just make sure to adjust your control knob for every different lure and use your brakes a lot as you learn. You’ll sacrifice some distance but it will help keep backlashes down. Also, thumb the spool to let the lure hit the water gently and youll almost never backlash. Again, it takes getting the feel and timing down but isn’t super difficult to learn. You’ll love it man and never look back!

I’m an Alberto guy and tie them enough to do then on my boat or wherever quickly but as others have said, uni to uni is pretty easy and holds up too. Maybe tie an Alberto at home and if need be a dbl uni from your yak.

  4. I have several baitcaster combos and just about all of them have 20lbs power pro braid with a 10lbs fluoro leader. I always use a double uni knot connecting the two lines.

Just start with brakes up a bit and slowly back them off. Use a heavy enough lure just to get the feel starting out with light lures might cause frustration. That setup there you’d have no issues throwing a 3/8oz chatterbait or even a 1/4oz spinnerbait.

Once you get the feel for it and loosen the tension and brakes you’ll be throwing lures a mile.

I really like FG knots for leaders. I always avoided them because of their complexity but I practiced tying them for a while and got it down to a science. Now I can tie an FG knot in a minute. Just practice it and you’ll be surprised how easy they are once you get it down and you’ll never go back
