I noticed this black color start to appear around some of his scales. I was wondering if this is bad or not.
Just got him last weekend from PetSmart. They claim he is a male dragonscale. When I got him, he was barely swimming. A few days after introducing him to his tank, he was doing a lot better and swimming around. I did acclimate him. The tank is 20 gal with a filter. It's set to 80⁰F. I used some betta water conditioner. There is a snail in the tank with him. He is being fed 4 Aqueon Betta Color Pellets daily. All decor was washed before added, no real plants. If you need any more information, let me know and I will do my best to provide it.

    Hi there!

I would highly recommend testing your water parameters for ammonia as this is possibly ammonia poisoning. If it isn’t (and also based off the fact he isn’t lethargic!), it may be a sign of him getting healthier!

Let me know how it goes!

So you know when your sick and you look “pale”?

Stressed out fish do the same thing. Its probably his color coming back in

Definitely check your water. But in my opinion its just hes comfy and happy and no longer all stressed out
