The Orvis encounter has gone up $100 since I looked at it last year. But if you’re beginner, is this actually a deal or is it just AI generated reviews?

Thanks for the help!

So the rod is 300 those tools are probably 50ish bucks I have that same net and I think I paid something like 30 for it the clear water lines about 50 and leader and tippets probably 20-30 bucks plus flies your probably looking at about 500 for all that stuff depending on how many and what flies you get

  2. Looks like a decent deal but Id price out separately and see. I’d probably buy my stuff separately as needed at my local shop. They will point you in direction of decent water and flies. Maybe even give you a quick casting lesson. Orvis also does a beginner class if you buy a rod from them.

If you plan on sticking with it, a clear water combo is better imo. That was my first rod and I still use it to this day. That will have rod, reel, line, and case.

Net: cortland FairPlay at Walmart. Same exact net but only cost like 20 bucks

Hemostats, and nippers: any decent brand will do here. I like orange colored stuff so I can find it when I drop it.

Tippet and leaders: the one shown are good quality, but again any brand is fine for a beginner. You’ll break a lot in trees before you get the hang of it

I wouldn’t get it on principle, very Orvis tippet spool I’ve bought has been garbage.
