Betta Fish: Does it look like he wants to eat them?
These are shrimp and I want to know if this looks like curiosity or aggression, I do have a 30 gallon I can add them to if this doesn’t work out.

Shrimp are fish food and are snacked on even if we never see it happen. Even otherwise peaceful community fish will go after them when they see the opportunity to do so! It’s the hunting instinct of the fish kicking in and has nothing to do with territory or aggression. Best you can do is ensure the tank is heavily planted or has some really densely planted areas for them to give them the best chance at surviving and living (more or less) comfortably with a predator. 🙂

My Betta died last week after munching of 3 out of the 8 shrimp I introduced to the tank. He got super bloated within days, and probably had some kind of blockage he couldn’t recover from. Fasted him for 2-3 days before reintroducing food slowly but it was already too late by the time I noticed visible symptoms.
I would suggest from my experience to not introduce them especially such small ones. But your call.

My betta was raised with shrimp and was super relaxed with them, it’s why I thought he was a good fit. Until he came to live with me and my 30g shrimp tank. It’s a jungle tank with a years long established breeding colony of skittles so they were there before him to reduce territory aggression. After sampling a couple of the babies as they darted about, he now eats the adults when he feels like it. The wild types not so much, but the reds, greens and blues that are bright and the tiny babies yes, if they fit in his mouth he eats them. The population is still strong albeit a little reduced, but they definitely stay more hidden and ping into cover when he’s lurking.
It’s just his predator response.
Tank for reference, even with this level of plants he finds them. It’s nature. Expensive snacks!
