Is there a way to stop my betta from eating algae wafers and bottom feeder pellets?

He is in a 20 gallon and I use those foods for my 6 otocinclus and many shrimp. They eat it pretty fast, but he is always there too! At first I thought he was waiting as an attempt at a baby shrimp trap but he doesn’t even eat those guys! Right after I feed him he prowls the bottom and cleans up all the scraps so even my shrimp barely get to have a leftover fish food party anymore 🙁

Just look at his greedy big back dumb fat fish with his rotund belly it’s really saddening how his insatiable hunger has consumed him. Does fish rehab exist?

I don’t want him to have health issues from overeating! I’ve tried feeding the others after lights out but somehow he still gets a lot of it.

He seems very healthy and is pooping normally but he always eats until he’s so fat! Why does he even try to consume the algae wafers? Chill bro.

P.S. I’ve had him for a month some name suggestions would be cool…

    Tank size: 20 gallons
    Heater: fluval heater 100watt
    Filter: fluval ac50
    Ammonia: 0ppm
    Nitrite: 0ppm
    Nitrate: 5ppm
    pH: 7.4
    Tank age: 3 months
    Betta added: 1 month ago
Water changes: I’ve only done two 30% other than that only top offs, it’s heavily planted and parameters are stable
Tankmates: 11 ember tetras, 6 otocinclus, 12 adult fancy shrimp plus babies, 2 nerite snails
Feeding: once per day fluval bug bites only enough for my betta and embers to consume in a couple minutes, once-twice per week small amount of frozen brine shrimp, once every other day 0.5-1 api algae wafer, occasionally fluval bug bites bottom feeder after lights out for my shrimp

  2. He’s beautiful. I like his deep blue color and markings on his face. I don’t know but If it were me I would separate him and put him in his own tank alone or in a tank without scavengers and bottom feeders. He might do well with some peaceful nano fish that won’t nip his long fins.

I also thought about somehow putting the pellets and wafers in something he can’t get into but I’m not sure what that would be. Maybe a cave or tunnel idk. If you can think of something you could try that first before moving him.
