His name was Dharma (means justice). He was blind since the day I got him (yes, I knew – but still wanted him). Hence, the name.
It took more care than I usually do with other bettas to feed and maintain him. He learned how to respond to my taps and feeding patterns, and everytime I was near him – he knew somehow. I made adjustments to his tank to accomodate his condition and spent significantly more on him than my other bettas.
But for almost a month now, his movement gradually reduced (but somehow I managed to feed him daphnia) and for the past week, he didn't move at all (and didn't eat anything). So I moved him to hospital tank and used Kanaplex + Furan-2 (careful dosages ofcourse). I tried my best with water changes (seachem prime), low dose salt baths, increased oxygenation, strict parameters check, water levels, putting leaf hammocks, everything.
But still I couldn't cure him and he passed away in just 2 years. For reference I've been keeping bettas for over 10 years and all my other existing bettas are still going strong. I've not had any that went before reaching at least 4 years.
So for anyone who's looking to buy blind bettas – I'm not saying don't. But just keep in mind that you should be prepared in case this happens to yours too.
Thanks for reading.
