Jeans fins have grown alot since ive gotten him. I have been worried about his fins though since the ends look so ruffled and unhappy? He was labeled as a delta but I saw a post that rose tails have petals at the ends of their tails that can be mistaken for finrot. Last photo is of when I first got him

I’m no expert, but I don’t see fin rot/. Rose petals get caught on everything and are so heavy they drag them at times, so they do get some damage here and there.

    Gorgeous fish btw!

  2. I have a male rose petal and imo this is not fin rot. They are just super flowy AND if his fins are not getting shorter but in fact longer, I think you are okay. I don’t see any shredding/tears here. Just a handsome boy with a big flowy coat, filling in nicely!

  3. It’s best seen when the fish flares. It’s difficult identify long fins when they are folded. That for sure could be a rosetail, but could also be fin curling.

Someone already mentioned bits about rosetails, so im going to mostly repeat that and add a bit to it! Rosetails are the heaviest (and most unethical too) of all tail types due to the extreme branching of fin rays causing them fold over so much, be too heavy to fully open/fish too weak to raise the fin rays, or the rays actually breaking and kinda permanently drooping/folding over. They are unfortunately prone to fin rot and can get damaged easily. The bettas struggle a lot doing anything so a (ideally) shallow tank with *a lot* of resting areas literally everywhere is strongly recommended to try and make life easier for them. Especially as they get into adulthood and continue aging.
