Bought her last week at PetCo after my previous betta died very suddenly of seemingly a swim bladder problem.
She was sold as a baby and is still very small. I picked her up Friday and she was completely white when I got her. She is in a 10 gallon cycled tank 79 degrees F, tankmates are 2 von Rio flame tetras, 2 harlequin rasboras, 4 ember tetras, and 5 Pygmy Corydoras. There are multiple hiding spots for her. She seems otherwise healthy and spends much of the day exploring nooks and crannies in the tank. She came with the redness in her gill area, ammonia and nitrites are zero.

Yes! I’ve had majority of my light colored bettas gradually turn into a fully dark color
For example… one of my bettas, Spirit (got him when he was completely white like this), is now almost 2 years old and is fully dark blue with splashes of red 😂
Totally normal
She’s so cute. And yes, color changes are to be expected! As long as the new spots aren’t fuzzy or anything, she seems fine!
