Hey guys, I’d really appreciate any advice on what kind of fishing line and test I should put on my two new setups.

Setup 1: Shimano SLX 151 HG XT on a Bass X 7’2” medium-heavy power moderate action

Setup 2: Shimano C3000HG on a 6’6” Clarus medium power fast action rod

Beginner as in never fished? PLine fluoro clear. It’s a flouro covered copolymer kinda like mono. It’s forgiving and easy to work with. Casts great. Lower stretch, and doesn’t have insane memory like regular mono. A ton of people will say mono, and that’ll work fine for the spinning gear, but you’ll have issues with the memory on the bait caster.

I’d recommend 8-10lb on your Sahara c3000. I’d recommend 12-15lb on the SLX.

Do yourself a favor and watch a ton of videos on how to set the brakes per lure on the SLX. Bait casters are great, but can be frustrating to learn.

I’d do 10-15lb braid to a flouro leader for the spinning setup. It’ll cast better. For the baitcaster 12-15lb flouro can cover the majority of techniques. I run a cheap mono backing for deeper spools as I fish ponds and aren’t to worried about all that line capacity.

  3. 20lb braid and then tie on whatever Fluoro leader fits your use case that day. I transform my rods from a bass to to a trout by changing the Fluoro leader from 8-12lb to 6lb
