Great combo. Pfleuger makes some pretty nice reels and I love my president and trion. Ugly stix is solid too. Ive slammed my rod tip on my trunk and nothing happened. It’ll last you longer than rods double the price.

Ugly Stik is my #1 recommendation for beginners. I like one-piece over two, but they are fine quality-wise and virtually indestructible.
The President… 20 years ago I’d have said yes without a doubt. Those were GREAT reels. Unfortunately Pflueger has been bought and sold several times, and the quality has just gone way downhill imo. I bought one a couple years ago, right off the bat it felt cheaper and plasticky… the bail broke almost immediately, returned that one and the replacement was stiff and grindy. My old one is as solid as the day I bought it, but I’m good on buying any new models.
IMO these days Daiwa and Shimano are just unmatched at lower price points and pretty much all I’ll buy. Around the same price as that President, look at a Daiwa Regal/Legalis or Shimano Sahara/Sedona.
