  1. The tank looks super new…. If you’re doing a fish in cycle please invest in a liquid test kit and test 2x a day until it’s stable. Learn about the nitrogen cycle if you’re not familiar with it.

Think about getting some living plants and places to rest near the surface.

Check if your current decor are sharp, they might damage your betta’s fins.

    Enjoy your little buddy!!!

people are like going to try and make you feel bad for your spongebob decorations – don’t let them.

The grass decor looks sharp and could hurt your betta or mess up his fins. I also saw someone say something about getting floating plants and I second that. I wish you the best 🙂

The bubbles show you definitely didn’t cycle your tank… echoing the other comment to research the nitrogen cycle and how to do a fish-in cycle. Your little friend deserves a healthy and safe home. Test strips don’t work at all, get the liquid test kit.

Maybe get rid of the circus rocks and get aqua sand or small natural looking stones

  6. Do basic research before you buy the fish next time. Go google the nitrogen cycle and how to do a fish in cycle, prepare to do 30% water changes every other day for a week then every third day for a week then twice a week. 🤦‍♀️

  7. It’s looking great, people on fish reddits tend to be critical but don’t stress too much. Floating plants, resting spots near the surface, etc. are all great upgrades your fish will love if you’re thinking of things to add. Betta logs are one of my favorites. I love the size of the tank for him and the decor is fun. Such a pretty fish too 🙂

Just keep an eye on that water quality to keep his health up! Cycling a tank is what I’d look into next, there’s easy tutorials on YouTube and it’s pretty fun to learn. Welcome to the betta hobby and congrats on your new friend!

Go on YouTube and look up how to do a fish in cycle. Get the testing materials needed etc. once you do that you can also look up tank ideas for bettas, they don’t like harsh lighting and I’d say get a betta log right away because that’ll be a nice spot for them to rest. Once you have a cycled tank look into simple easy beginner aquascapes and start with easy live plants. Trust me I had artificial aquariums my whole life and then in college I got really into planted tanks. My heavily planted tanks are the easiest things to take care of. They’re little ecosystems that basically take care of themselves and my fish are so happy. You’re going to make mistakes along the way but get the basics down first. Get that tank cycled properly then start incorporating more natural decorations and things. And get a betta log for your guy as soon as you can

Hi OP, you’re going to want to quickly learn about fish in cycling to keep your new buddy safe over the next few weeks until the good bacteria has grown in.

You’ll need a liquid test kit such as the API Master, plus a big bottle of dechlorinator like Seachem Prime. Water changes and testing will need to be most days due the next few weeks as there is a fish living through the nitrogen cycling process so he’ll be exposed to the toxins that happen.

Here are a couple of links that explain it in not too scientific ways:
