Hello everyone,

I would like some help because I don't understand what happened.

I cycled an aquarium for the required 3 weeks until the water parameters were correct.

I bought some fish from a pet store: 2 male guppies, 5 females, and 5 other small fish.

In one week, only one of the male guppies remained; the others all died within a week.

I would like to know what avenues I should explore to understand why they didn't last more than a week. What tests should I run? What measures should I take? Who should I contact?

I recently had a sort of small mold appear on the glass, could that be the cause?

I'm so frustrated that I couldn't even make them last a week… Thanks for your help

Cycling takes 1-2 months or more. 3 weeks is still early

    Whats was your ammonia source?

  2. Cycling takes as long as it needs to take – could be instant, could be six months. If a guide or someone told you it takes a specific amount of time, for example three weeks in your description, then they probably don’t really know what they are talking about at all.

Test for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH. See where they are now.

  3. Out of curiosity, what’s the tank size?

I’m also wondering, you added 13 fish all in on go, yes? There could be a chance that one of them was sick, and it spread to someone else. Whenever people are starting tanks (at work), I always recommend that they start with only a few fish to start at a time, that way if someone got sick it would be easier to tell which fish had it. Just a suggestion for when you add fish again!
