Its short term and part of that whole system, so its wayyyy more water volume. Much better than being kept in a small cup.

  2. Compared to what you usually see in stores it’s quite large and they have very good conditions, especially considering they’ll only be there temporarily since they’re for sale.

  3. Yes, it’s because they’re temporary, as well as because they have to be housed alone which takes up more space. It looks like they actually have heated and filtered setups which is great! But I wouldn’t take it as prime example for how to care for them at home

All fish in pet stores are kept in tanks that are too small or overstocked, simply because it’s only temporary. That’s possible because they have massive filtration systems. Species-appropriate housing like what should be provided in a home aquarium would probably be hardly feasible, both economically and in terms of space.

By the way, this is actually quite a good betta setup. In the US they’re kept and sold in small cups with just a few hundred milliliters of water.

Because it’s a display tank and meant for temporary holding. Trust me, this is far better than what the American chain pet store standard is (tiny cups). This guy at least has plants, a filter, and warm water.

Its just because theyre temporary, minimum size for long finned bettas is only 20L so for temp housing 10-15L isnt bad, *especially* for a chain store! Not all get on with other fish (like tetras or rasboras), so its easier to create rows of small divided tanks

That’s actually the best betta set up I’ve seen in a pet store. Usually where I’m from they’re kept in plastic cups with half the water evaporated

  8. I didn’t know america was so cruel! this is the smallest tank for bettas ive seen in the Uk, but bigger tanks i usually see males sharing with guppies so i didnt know this one was so good

  9. Honestly this is way better than most pet stores that put them in cups. It’s a temporary holding space until they get sold. Not ideal, but an improvement for sure.

  10. I would be so stoked to see this in my local pet shop. All the bettas are in a maybe 16oz cup.

Side question, anyone knows if they do any water changes to those cups? Or is it truly the death trap it looks like?

They’re not in there for too long, plus those tanks are part off a much larger system, so water quality isnt as bad. I think the systems are over 700 litres each, but my memory may be wrong.

  12. This is actually crazy good compared to the cups you can see with an inch and a half of water in them.
