I’ve fished all my life in smaller bodies of water, and generally have no problem finding fish.
This past year, I’ve taken my Jon boat to some larger lakes and struggled much more with finding fish. If I find them, I can catch them, but currently I’m just hitting spots on a lake that I think should hold fish.
How big of a difference maker is some kind of sonar, and what should I get?
I’m pretty partial to Garmin, I know that much. I’ve used Garmin for my coonhound tracking systems for years and I’m very pleased with them.
This is my boat. I fish a lot of sloughs and submerged forest where this is the only thing larger than a kayak that can make it through downed trees. I’m happy with the boat itself, although I do plan to switch from my current trolling motor setup to a bow mount with spot-lock capability.
TLDR: teach me about boat electronics like I’m stupid, please. Largest lake I fish is Reelfoot.
