Hi everyone! Recently set up my first planted aquarium and this is how it looks so far. It’s currently cycling and i’m planning to get a male betta later on. This is a 23L tank.
What’s been bothering me is how empty it looks, and how slow the plants grow. I’ve been thinking of getting more plants (so if you have any recs, that would be super!). Also, the substrate keeps messing up the sand, so i’ve given up on having clean white sand.
PSA: I’ve glued the java moss with super glue, that’s why it’s white 🥲
Any tips, recs or suggestions, comment them below please! 🐠🍀

I have a 3d printed house like that. There is a microscopic hole and it take water in and sinks eventually. My fishy loves it so much but it just wont float anymore.
Ooooo so I think your dwarf grass will die off. It need to be planted as far as I know. Try anibus, Java fern, moss they are easy to care for! Dont need to be planted either. Just attached to hard scape or you can stick them in the substrate with the rhizome showing.
Floating plants are a great option too! Id recommend frog bit. Duckweed will grow FAST but you’ll never get rid of it. Like… ever. It is considered the herpes of fish plants. 🤣🤣 Some people love it.
You can also gro pothos out of the top of the tank! Lots of plants you can do that with. Pothos is GREAT at helping suck up extra nutrients.
Try getting some hornwort or guppy grass. That stuff grows FAST! If you look online look for Marcus fish tanks on Amazon and cannon aquatics. Both sell on Amazon and have GREAT deals.
I got 3 swords for 9.99 free shipping! Huge matt of moss for $25 as well. Great value!
Your instinct for more plants is spot on! Anubias is slow growing but bettas love using the leaves as hammocks. You could glue it to your big driftwood piece, or I have one attached to a suction cup. Hornwort is an awesome floating plant. It provides lots of hiding/resting spots and gives a nice green glow in the light. It does grow fast so you’ll need to trim it often. Another fast growing floating plant is salvinia. I have to throw some of mine out weekly. Depending on where you live, you can probably find someone on Facebook Marketplace selling hornwort and salvinia.
