A strange problem, but looking to do some transporting by train to different fishing spots, that being said, I want to use live bait, I’m looking at oxygen tablets to put in a sealed thermos, changing about a quarter of the water when I get to the location, just wondering if anybody has already done something similar to get any tips

Depends on how many baits, their size and water temp mainly tbh; you’re only going to be able to keep 1-12 alive in something that small, even with good O2
Yeah just add an ice cube and a bendy straw so you can blow bubbles for them and should be okay
I have many times in similar sized objects. My guess is in a 17 fl oz bottle you could keep about a dozen 1” minnows alive for roughly 30 minutes GIVE OR TAKE. if you drop the number of minnow the remaining would last longer and vice versa. I transport minnows from a small local pond to feed to my bluegill at home and some trips have taken me up to 45 minutes with no casualties. However ive switched to a small bubble bucket in recent months! Good luck with your trip and I hope this helped a little
Check local regulations on how far you’re allowed to transport live bait. Where I live you could get in trouble going “take a train” distances.
Yeah, but they made my coffee taste funny.
See that other comment about relocating wildlife.
Just dont mistake it for your morning coffee!
Don’t drink it. Been there done that. Make sure you give it some surface agitation for oxygen exchange here and there. By the same token don’t leave the lid fully shut. And don’t leave it in the sun.
I used to fish bass tournaments. To keep fish alive, you want to have a high surface area to volume ratio so water can exchange oxygen with air.
A tall tank is no better than a short tank with the same length and width. Vertical space has zero utility, unless you start with something that’s stupidly shallow.
A tall, narrow thermos is about the worst thing you can use.
Yes and in cooler weather it worked pretty well.
“There’s a fish in the percolator”
I had a 1/2 gallon igloo I used for a while with a bubbler strapped to the side. It was a bit akward to get minnows out though. And I wouldn’t expect them to last more than a day or so with a scoop in there.
