Hi team,

Beginner fly fisherman here and I've just recently upgraded the factory fly line from the bigginer combo to a SA Mastery MPX.

I've taken it out twice now and have noticed that my leader loop is cutting into my fly line loop. As per photo.

I have also recently started playing around with streamers and added slip shot which has probably cause this (as well as my amature casting techniques).

I would like to keep the loop connection as I plan to swap leaders from streamer to dry dropper to nymps depending on what the river calls for.

How can I fix this and prevent it from happening? Any advise is appreciated! Thanks!

  1. At this point it’s only going to get worse. I would cut that loop off, nail knot a heavy piece of fluoro (you can also use mono) on the end, tie a perfection loop in the fluoro leaving a 6” or so length of connector and then do my loop-to-loop connections to the fluoro.

If you have some UV resin you can do that to your knot. I’ve skipped this step more often than I’ve done it and never had an issue. Pull your nail knot tight.

You could also nail knot a leader to the end of your fly line, but the method above will last longer. It will last the longest if use fluoro.

EDIT: 0x tippet will do fine for your repair.
