This goby was sold to me as a blue neon stiphodon goby (i don’t think it is, it has orange at the top of its back fin but i haven’t been able to find out what kind of stiphodon this is exactly) a week ago. as can be seen in an earlier post, i have a stiphodon goby tank that was having issues and since taking the advice left on that post such as adding wood and more plants i’ve had no deaths and the gobies seem to be growing, eating a lot and active. as has this one. this morning however i noticed it sitting on this anubias leaf flapping it’s fins rapidly. i tested the water and ammonia and nitrites are at 0 while nitrates are at 15. This goby is currently eating as i type this but seeing it like this is concerning. is this usually a symptom of something? is there something i should do besides a water change? thank you all for your help because there is not a lot of information about these guys online and a lot of it is conflicting. much appreciated

  1. I think it could be something about his pectoral fin, but idk really. My goby is thriving, Im gonna tell you what I did. I have him in a jungle style tank that has both a rapids sector and a calmer, still water sector. My goby loves climbing up the rock mountain I made for him, the Tidal 35 filter output blows water straight into the rocks. The sector has volcanic rocks, goby stone, and granite I brought from the beach (which I boiled for about an hour or so before leaving in treated water for a few days before adding to the aquarium). They need to grace algae or biofilm from surfaces. I’d suggest you do something like this:
Get some rocks with no sharp edges, and preferably with smooth surface, add Seachem Stability or any other product that has bacteria that creates biofilm, and watch as the goby thrives eating on it! Mine also likes TetraMin flakes that get stuck against the rock and in the crevices in between them.
