I have a 14×48 aluminum Jon boat and I’m fishing mostly swamp-like submerged forest lakes and sloughs and relatively small, timber-ridden rivers. I’m looking for a trolling motor that spot locks and will drive its own track for trolling. I’d like to stick with Minn Kota unless there is a way, way better deal somewhere. I fish freshwater, but this saltwater motor seems to be the cheapest option Minn Kota offers that does everything I need.
Is there something better out there I’m not seeing?
Will the 54” shaft be a major problem if I’m normally keeping the prop <2 feet deep?
(54” is the shortest this shaft comes in, but the shortest the next motor up comes in is only 48”, didn’t seem like 6” would make much difference)
Has anyone used this motor, and what do you like, love, or hate about it if so?
