Started my adventure in aquariums and still working on building it. I have drift wood to add soon.
I have 5 Pygmy corydoras, 8 neon tetras and 3 amaño shrimp.
My original plan was to get a sorority of betta but not sure my 20 gallon will handle that. My partner has questioned my want for bettas and said I should look into other fish.

20 gallons is no where near large enough to have a sorority. And as a “newbie” I wouldn’t recommend having one at all.
Are your plants floating on the top in something?
Def look into other fish, sororities are extremely difficult and especially so with a smaller tank
