sulfide smell?
probably trap an anaerobic gas pocket inside and under it

check with a flashlight for a passed away snail if you ever had any – even the tiny ones can STINK. But it could def be the air pocket like the other commenter said

Anything that comes out of a tank doesn’t smell that great in my opinion. This is worse than your standard seaside smell?

Some of those aquarium decorations do get really stinky. I usually find it’s structures like that one you’re holding with hollow interiors. I have a solid bridge that has never smelled like that and the cave I got doesn’t smell like that. But I know what you mean a couple other pieces have gotten really stinky and I found it was best to just remove them from the tank.

I lost almost an entire tank of fish with a piece resembling that it was hollow with little holes every where I hadn’t noticed them really. It was my first tank set up. Tiny snails and shrimp were trapped in there and omg! I was so upset. My tank stayed crystal clear and within a few short days most were gone. I cut it open and it stunk so badly. All the trapped particles in it. My tank now is all natural rock and live plants. Wish I would have seen this post four years ago. I had 37 female bettas die.

I owned this in the pass; the gasses get trapped in the tips.

I just use regular rocks from outside. I dont trust all of these weird decorations they are just made in china and all of the chemicals and paint and stuff are bad. I don’t think there is any regulations on what they can use on it, and if there are I doubt anyone is checking. They probably just use whatever kind of chemicals they want. If it smells that strong it cant be good for your fish or even putting your hands in the water with it over the course of owning your tank. Its probably made by literal slaves, if they are willing to do that, i doubt they care whats good or bad for fish, or for you.

I had one like that! I don’t know what causes it, but i just threw it out. Not worth it.

I don’t put plastic stuff in my tanks anymore. Real rocks and wood are so beneficial that i can’t imagine putting fake stuff in there now. Plastic creates weird problems like bad smells and contributes nothing to the ecosystem of the tank, possibly even harms it.

Oh god, I had something very similar and took it out a few days ago. Similar smell. I did a big water change after.
