I've been trying to find a tall aquarium that will fit the exact space I want to put it in, which would be a max of 16" w x 15" d x 36" t.
It's proven to be pretty difficult to find a tank of this size. I've found a couple options, but they're way out of my budget. I was hoping to spend under $150 for just the tank.
Is there a reason this size is unpopular? Can I DIY a frameless tank for less?

* Fish want horizontal space, not vertical. You’re going to have 40 gallons but should only stock small slow swimming fish that would do ok in a 10 gallon cube.
* Thick, thick glass for a 40 gallon. Pressure is determined by height, not volume.
* Access for cleaning and maintenance is awful.
* Lighting required goes way up with depth. Very hard to get light through three feet of water.
* Water flow issues, unusual flow pattern for fish
* Lack of gas exchange, 40 gallons with very little surface area
None of this is insurmountable but it’s why no one makes tanks like this. There’s also no cheap way to make this work.
I had a custom tall tank made a while back for shrimp but it was an absolute nightmare to maintain and work in. I wouldn’t bother ever again.
