What’s up y’all. I’ve been bank fishing lakes since early fall and this is the spinning combo I’ve been using — medium action Speed Stick (4–8 lb rating) with a Pflueger Trion 20. I’ve only caught one bass so far.
I’m not blaming the gear, I know I’ve got a lot to learn, but I want to take it more serious this spring. I’m planning on adding a second setup and I want to stick with spinning.
For those of you who mainly fish lakes from the bank, what spinning setup would you add? What power/action would complement what I’m already using? I’m trying to build a solid two-rod setup and actually dial in this season.

6’ speed stick, Medium/light fast action, pflueger presidential 30, 8lb green mono. I primarily bass fish from the banks of farm ponds and this rig has pulled most of the biggest fish I’ve caught, 3-4lbs or so.
This set up was more opportunistic and than anything but it’s served me well. It was a yardsale rod and an Amazon sale. Been easy to bushwhack through briars/brush and still make decent casts. If I broke it or lost I’d replace it all immediately.
If you’re targeting bass and mainly bank fishing, any reason you want to stick with spinning?
Spinning is great for lighter setups.
Baitcaster let’s you size up and you also gain comfort, efficiency, and more torque for the bigger fish. Also, if you live in an area with pyke or musky, most baitcasters will do ok with these fish as well.
Lastly, my go to recommendation is wacky rigged senko. Its a very standard suggestion because it works well and is also beginner friendly in terms of technique. Have you tried a wacky rigged senko or yum dinger? You’ll definitely catch more bass.
Sounds like you need a medium heavy more versatility. Or if you want a strictly dropshot rod get a medium light.
