This is my first fish tank and there is nothing in the tank except water. It is a top fin filter made for 30 gallons.

Is the water gurgling because the filter hasn’t been primed? Mine gets noisy when the water level inside the filter is low, I fix it by adding more water directly into the filter area until the gurgling stops. Not sure if this is the problem—but maybe?

Sounds like the impeller is scratching in the motor. Have you tried reseating the inlet? Should be able to just lift out and push back in.

Remove both filters for a minute and turn your flow knob to full did the noise go away ?

Lift filter an inch upwards off the tank wall. Still make noise?

It is a topfin filter. Chuck it in the trash before you accidentally crash your cycle just doing a simple filter cleaning. Buy a hob filter with cleanable media. Not disposable media.

something similar to this happened to my filter, the exact same kind. For me i needed to move the filter cartridge back a little bit, it was stuck in there and causing the noise

Checkout Amazon for hob filters. They have some good stuff there for cheap. Just regular cleaning maintenance needed every 6 months
You got air in the impellor chamber and it’s sucking on the fins and making them rub. turn it on and off a couple of times it’ll blow it out.

Move the intake pipe around. Try lifting it up just the smallest amount. Trust me there’s a sweet spot somewhere just gotta figure it out. Might have to wedge something somewhere.

My small tank filter does this when water levels are too low even by a smidge of a mm.
I would try to check the water level and see if the internals of the filter are working correctly, sometimes we rub the inside of the motor with a smaaaal amount of vaseline to keep the motor spinning (the fan looking part…not the whole thing 😶)

Do you have snails ? It happened to me once that there was a dead snail leftover that kept hitting the fan xD it nearly made me mad until I understood what was going on.
